Do you ever wonder, “will this work for ME?” This is a question we can often ask ourselves when we are searching for a solution that will address our personal needs. That’s just it, we all have individual needs. So how do you know what will work for you? Well, the honest answer is, there’s never a guarantee how your body will respond to a specific skincare routine. However, the good news is if you follow these tips, you can make a more informed purchasing decision that can result in the perfect match!
Swap for a new Clean Routine
Whenever I am trying a new set of products, it is not an all or nothing approach. If I am in a season of my life where I am only using a couple products and I am able to do a clean switch for the whole routine, this can be a good option to allow your skin to adapt to the new complete regimen. After all, the full set of a particular brand was designed to work together for the best results. This can be the best option for you, however, it’s not always the answer.
Start Simple
More often than not, I find it is always beneficial to swap only one or two products in my routine at a time, giving my body time to adjust. This allows me to test how my skin responds to the new product(s). After all, it takes twenty-eight days for a full cycle of cellular turnover so it can take that amount of time to see the greatest results.
Be Willing to Adapt
I don’t know about you, but my skin changes with the seasons, changes with my monthly cycle and even changes depending on how much time I have spent outdoors. With that being said, sometimes my skin needs will vary. Sometimes you will need to be in tune with what your skin is telling you it needs.
By Skin Type
Sometimes our skin requires us to be truly receptive to its needs. Although there isn’t a one size fits all solution, a basic assessment could mean:
• Dry Skin: Focus on providing extra moisture and nurturing your lipid barrier with a face oil such as Laetus that helps to reduce transdermal water loss or a night cream such as Taceo to deliver rejuvenating botanical actives that stimulate cellular turnover and repair while you sleep. Avoid harsh cleansers that disrupt your natural lipid barrier and instead try a nourishing cleanser such as Validus that will effectively cleanse and nourish the skin.
• Oily Skin: Whether it is your “time of the month” or just your norm, oily skin can be a result of a number of environmental and lifestyle factors; diet being a big one. However, there are some things you can change topically to ensure you are supporting your skin function. Oily skin can be a result of increased sebum production due to excessive exfoliating or over cleansing. For this, you should limit exfoliating to one or two times per week and switch to a gentle, oily, gel to milk cleanser such as Validus to support your lipid barrier. To further support healthy skin function, introducing a Niacinamide, Vitamin B3, serum into your skincare regimen such as Fortem, could effectively reduce breakouts and regulate sebum production. However, you must not forget to nourish the skin; to do this, using a face oil such as Laetus can help to balance sebum production by supporting your skin’s lipid barrier.
• Sensitive Skin: For sensitive skin, ingredients are everything. The most beneficial products will be gentle, soothing and calming, especially if you have hyper-reactive skin. Avoiding products with essential oils would be beneficial and instead opt for a gentle daily moisturizer that contains antioxidants and soothing plant extracts such as Mitis, our daily white tea moisturizer or a gentle, plant-based cleanser such as Validus that strengthens the lipid barrier, effectively cleanses, and supports a healthy microbiome.
